Climate, temperature and polysemous patterns in French and Wolof
Résumé
The aim of this paper is twofold. First, it presents the system of predicative terms (adjectives and verbs) involving a notion of temperature in two languages: Wolof (Atlantic, Niger-Congo phylum) and French (Romance, Indo-European family). It then studies and compares patterns of polysemy displayed by these temperature terms in order to observe whether the cultural representations relating to perception of climatic temperature influence these patterns.
